Ramblin’ Around the World
Explore the planet on trips planned and organized by Georgia Tech Alumni Travel
Global opportunities for Yellow Jackets continue even after getting out. Georgia Tech’s alumni travel program allows Wrecks to ramble all over the world.
Over 30 excursions to 53 countries are on the 2015 tour schedule. Destinations range from the world’s most famous landmarks to rarely visited locales. An ambitious traveler could hit every single continent, all while being surrounded by former Yellow Jackets. Yes, that includes Antarctica.
For voyagers, the trips essentially turn into class voyages that span decades.
Sam Beckham graduated from Tech in 1970. He and his wife Laura explored Santorini, Greece and Italy’s Amalfi Coast with a Georgia Tech Alumni tour. “We have enjoyed meeting alumni from Georgia Tech and sharing all things we have in common,” Beckham says.
Many tours hit several countries on their itinerary. The first tour of 2015 called “Ancient Mysteries of the Americas,” includes stops in Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, and Costa Rica. After a passage through the Panama Canal, the trek continues to Ecuador and Peru.
The last excursion of the year will take travelers to Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia.
1964 chemistry grad Kenney Linton took the opportunity to provide a once-in-a-lifetime experience for his family on a safari in Tanzania. “Seeing animals in the wild with our grandchildren was a once in a lifetime experience for all of us,” says Linton.
Georgia Tech may organize the trips, but they are not limited to alumni. Friends and family are welcome.
The hardest question might be which destination to choose first.
