With the fall semester underway, Tech's full population has finally returned to campus after a quiet summer. Of course, that means waiting in lines at campus coffee establishments could take up your entire class break or lunch hour.

There are enough options for caffeine on campus, though, that you need not settle for the same one every day. We present to you a comprehensive guide for fueling your studies and workday on campus.

 

text - Galloway Cafe

LOCATION: First Floor, West Architecture Building

MENU: Highland Bakery menu items, including coffee and espresso drinks, tea, pastries, snacks, and juices.

ATMOSPHERE: Galloway offers a Georgia Tech staycation: It’s relaxing and refreshing despite its central-campus locale. There are some tables near the counter and outside, but if you don’t have time to sit, you’ll still enjoy checking out nearby posters from the College of Design.

 

HOURS: Weekdays, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Java World

LOCATION: College of Computing

MENU: Coffee, tea, espresso, pastries, and sandwiches. 

ATMOSPHERE: When you're passing through Computing and need a jolt, Java World has you covered. The small counter on the first floor of the College of Computing building has a full array of coffee and light meal or snack options. This spot is not designed for long leisurely dining (though the courtyard offers a secluded spot for a reprieve), but is great for a pit stop.

HOURS: Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

 

text - Highland Bakery

LOCATION: Bradley Building

MENU: Coffee, espresso, tea, smoothies, juices, breakfast, lunch, and pastries.

ATMOSPHERE: This Highland Bakery was the first on a college campus, which now also has a location at Emory University and at Georgia State. Whether you bring a friend or your laptop, you'll be comfortable here. On a nice day, sit outside and enjoy a view of the French Building, a historic gem in the center of campus. Highland is a chameleon in that its vibe changes as the day progresses, ranging from a bustling restaurant during peak lunch time to a quiet coffee shop later in the afternoon (and in the early morning, as well). Perhaps the best part? They also serve their breakfast menu through lunch.

HOURS: Weekdays, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

text - Food Anatomy

LOCATION: First Floor, Engineered Biosystems Building

MENU: Highland Bakery fare

ATMOSPHERE: If you like Highland Bakery, try its more tranquil sister café. Offering much of the same menu as the main location, Food Anatomy is in a more remote area with less hustle and bustle. Stop here for natural light, comfy seating, and tasteful wood accents.

HOURS: Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

LOCATION: First Floor, Student Center (next to Tech Rec)

MENU: Variety of iced coffee flavors, specialty hot and cold brews, smoothies.

ATMOSPHERE: Don’t be deterred by Blue Donkey’s under-the-stairs spot in the Student Center. The shop’s minimalist design, delicious drinks, and friendly baristas make it a campus treasure. If you can't decide what feels right to order, the Four 65 is a great Goldilocks drink: not too dark, not too light, juuuuust right.

(And if you’re still sleepy despite the caffeine, try napping among the nearby beanbag chairs.)

HOURS: Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sunday, 4 to 10 p.m.

 

 

nectar - petit institute

LOCATION: Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience

MENU: Coffee, espresso, mochas, juices, soft drinks, breakfast, lunch, snacks.

ATMOSPHERE: Located in the atrium of the Petit Institute, Nectar provides high quality ‘biofuel’ for this coffee-cultured research center. In addition to a full array of coffees and other beverages, this place is also renowned for its healthy snacks and chipotle chicken sandwiches.

HOURS: Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (kitchen closes at 3:30 p.m.)

text - Dunkin Donuts

LOCATION: Student Center Food Court (Second Floor, Student Center)

MENU: A full array of usual Dunkin' offerings.

ATMOSPHERE: Depending on the time of day, the Student Center Food Court can be calm or chaotic. Either way, Dunkin' will be there for your sugar or caffeine-induced resurgence. Sometimes you just need to literally dunk a donut.

HOURS: Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.


 

text - Starbucks Clough Commons

LOCATION: Second Floor (south end)

MENU: Variety of coffee and tea options, smoothies, pastries, snacks.

ATMOSPHERE: A king among campus coffee shops, this Starbucks boasts speedy service to offset its famously long lines. In-store seating can be tough to come by during the fall and spring semesters, but Clough Commons offers plenty of backup options. And on a hot day, there's no better afternoon pick-me-up than a simple coffee Frappuccino.

HOURS: Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Fridays, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sundays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

text - Starbucks Tech Square

LOCATION: Spring and Fifth Streets (inside Barnes & Noble @ Georgia Tech)

MENU: Full array of Starbucks offerings.

ATMOSPHERE: When you cross the interstate into Tech Square, the vibe shifts from traditional collegiate to bustling business — and not just because it's home to the Scheller College of Business. With the Advanced Technology Development Center and many startup offices within bean-throwing distance, this Starbucks is ground zero for entrepreneurial meetups. Come for coffee, leave with a business partner.

HOURS: Weekdays, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.; opens at 8 a.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. Sundays.

text - Starbucks West Village

LOCATION: West Village Dining Commons (Eighth and McMillan Streets)

MENU: Full array of Starbucks offerings.

ATMOSPHERE: Tech's third and newest on-campus Starbucks location is on the third floor of the West Village facility, which just opened this fall. Enjoy all the usual comforts of Starbucks while also sitting outside on a covered terrace with sweeping views of the Midtown skyline, or take your java to a nearby study room to get some work done. Those living on West Campus can practically roll out of bed into a cup of coffee. For a secondary option, visit Panera Bread on the first floor.

HOURS: Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 2 a.m.; Fridays, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Sundays, 8 a.m. to 2 a.m.
