Congratulations, Yellow Jackets – the first two weeks of the Fall semester are complete and it’s time for a day off!

Georgia Tech’s campus will be closed on Monday, Sept. 3, for Labor Day. Students staying in Atlanta over the long weekend are encouraged to explore the city and attend any of the events below.

 

Georgia Tech Events

Georgia Tech vs. Alcorn State

When: Sept. 1, 12:30 p.m.

Where: Bobby Dodd Stadium

What: Bring out the white and gold and support the Yellow Jackets as they take on the Alcorn State Braves in the first home football game of the season. Students can register for free tickets here.

Fall into Dance

When: Sept. 1, 7-11 p.m.

Where: Georgia Tech Student Center Ballroom

What: The Ballroom Dance Club at Georgia Tech is hosting a social dance and lesson on Saturday night. Learn how to cha-cha, foxtrot, and tango with other members of the Tech community. Admission is free and food will be provided.

Grad Student Welcome Walks

When: Sept. 1, 8 a.m.

Where: Sweetwater Creek State Park

What: Outdoor Recreation and the SGA Graduate Student Senate invite all graduate students to enjoy the outdoors and connect with the graduate community through the Graduate Student Welcome Walks series. Register here to attend.

 

Special Events

Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game

When: Sept. 1, 3:30 p.m.

Where: Mercedes-Benz Stadium

What: Celebrate the start of college football season with the 2018 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game. The Washington Huskies will take on the Auburn Tigers at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 1. Before the game, there will be food, games, tailgate activities, and entertainment in and around the stadium for all fans to enjoy.

Dragon Con

When: Aug. 30 – Sept. 3, all day

Where: Throughout Atlanta

What: The Annual Dragon Con convention will take place in Atlanta from Aug. 30 through Sept 3. Highlights of the event include the Dragon Con Parade down Peachtree Street at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1; Dragon Con Night at the Aquarium from 7 – 11 p.m. at the Georgia Aquarium on Saturday, Sept. 1; and autograph sessions throughout the weekend at the Atlanta Marriot Marquis. AJC Decatur Book Festival

When: Aug. 31 – Sept. 2, all day

Where: Decatur Square

What:  The AJC Decatur Book Festival is the largest independent book festival in the country, with more than 1,000 authors and thousands of book lovers in attendance. The festival is held in historic downtown Decatur Square and features book signings, readings, panel discussions, music, workshops, and more. View the full schedule here.
