Campus Recreation Center Hosts Atlanta Swimming Association Division Championship
This week, the Campus Recreation Center (CRC) will host the 2019 Atlanta Swimming Association Division Championship Series from June 26–29. With more than 3,000 youth swimmers participating in six divisional sessions, it is the largest meet in the country.
The event provides an opportunity for Atlanta-area standout swimmers to compete where former Olympians have shattered records and made a name for themselves. It will also bring some closures and inconvenience for the Tech community.
McAuley Aquatic Center will be closed to patrons June 26–29. The Crawford Leisure Pool will remain open with adjusted hours, which will be posted at crc.gatech.edu/aquatics.
To accommodate the influx of swimmers and fans, Parking and Transportation Services will use the W10-CRC deck for swim guests. Parking spaces in W01 (Ferst Drive from Regents to Sixth Street) will be closed. Permit holders are required to move their vehicles from W10 and this section of W01 by 6 a.m. Wednesday.
The swim meet is expected to run from 7:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday. Parking congestion is expected during these hours in the following locations, which will be used for overflow guest parking and alternate permit parking:
- W02-Student Center Deck
- W06-Marietta Street lots/Tech Parkway
- W21-Physics/Boggs
- W23/Area 5-North Campus Deck
Affected permit customers will receive emails with specific parking instructions for this event. For those who don’t need to park or drive in these areas, walking or taking campus transit is encouraged. The Georgia Tech Police Department will set up checkpoints and direct traffic to ease congestion.
Completed in 1995 to host the 1996 Summer Olympics swimming and diving competitions, the McAuley Aquatic Center in the CRC is considered one of the fastest pools in the world. The CRC hosts several swim meets throughout the year, keeping the Olympic spirit alive.
