Brief Network Interruptions Expected During Campuswide Upgrade
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) will perform a significant upgrade to the campus network on Saturday, March 19. This will include increasing the core network bandwidth by four times the current capacity, which will greatly improve the speed and performance of Georgia Tech’s network, resulting in a better user experience when using Wi-Fi, applications, and websites.
To minimize disruptions, the maintenance has been scheduled from 6 a.m. to noon. However, OIT is anticipating some campus network outages during the upgrade period. Specifically, users should expect a disruption to inbound and outbound network traffic. This means Internet service and external websites will not be available during this time.
Additional services that will be affected include, but are not limited to, BuzzPort, T-Square, Student Printing, Banner, Passport, Service Desk, LAWN and GT Wi-Fi, DegreeWorks, the campus VPN, and Office 365 (email, contacts, and calendar). This network upgrade will also interrupt access to the Compliance Campaign modules.
Users who are logged into their email prior to the maintenance window will be able to access their email messages, but users attempting to log in to email once the upgrade begins will not be able to do so until the upgrade is complete.
All services are expected to resume normal operations after noon on March 19.
