Counseling Center Announces New Initiatives for Fall
Hands interwoven outside Clough Commons
The Georgia Tech Counseling Center (GTCC) is very excited to announce some new initiatives that will improve the effectiveness of our services through the incorporation of technology. Using funds from the Joint Allocation Committee (JAC) provided by the Student Government Association and the Georgia Tech administration, GTCC is implementing the following new services in the upcoming year.
Interactive Self-Help App
WellTrack is an interactive app that helps individuals manage stress, regulate emotions (anxiety, depression) and is interactive and available in the moment. It can be used in conjunction with individual counseling, group counseling, or can be a stand-alone aid for managing stress. WellTrack includes modules on stress, anxiety and depression. Some of the tools available through this app include: Thought Diary, Activity Scheduler, Relaxation Room, Cognitive Distortions Quiz, MoodCheck, and Fun and Achievement tracker. Accounts can be set up for students and counselors. WellTrack will provide aggregate data for all campus to help us gauge how effectively it is being utilized. Any student on campus can access this app. Effective immediately, students can download the WellTrack app and register for an account with your @gatech.edu email address for full access.
After-hours Telephonic Mental Health Services
GTCC has partnered with ProtoCall to enhance our after-hours mental health support provided to the Georgia Tech campus community. ProtoCall is the nation’s leading provider of third-party telephonic behavioral health services and is widely used by colleges and universities across the country. This new service stream-lines access to licensed mental health professionals who will provide informed and effective crisis response and consultation geared toward the resources available on the Georgia Tech campus and the local community. To reach an after-hours counselor, simply dial the main Georgia Tech Counseling Center number at (404) 894-2575 and select “Option 1: Speak with the after-hours counselor.”
Biofeedback Initiatives
Over the course of this academic year, GTCC will be developing a biofeedback program to help address anxiety and stress, which are the most common presenting issues at GTCC. One of the most effective methods of treatment for stress and anxiety involves a component of cognitive-behavior therapy that teaches individuals to reverse the effects of the “fight, flight, and freeze” reaction using specialized bio-feedback equipment. More information about this innovative and exciting initiative will be forthcoming.
And More…
GTCC is in the process of proposing a few other exciting initiatives to the Student Government Association and Georgia Tech administration for JAC approval.
