Georgia Tech will soon welcome the return of around 8,000 students to campus housing. On Saturday, Aug. 9, and Sunday, Aug. 10, nearly 4,000 new residents — including first-year, transfer, and graduate students — will arrive on campus. From Aug. 12 to 18, returning upper-class and graduate students will continue the move-in process.

The community is advised to expect potential traffic congestion around campus.

  • On Saturday, Aug. 9, residents moving in will enter campus heading westbound on North Avenue and turn right on Tech Parkway to get to the back entrance of the Campus Recreation Center Parking Deck for check-in. There will be additional congestion on these routes; expect delays.
  • After check-in, residents will turn left onto Ferst Drive from the Campus Recreation Parking Deck and then onto Techwood Drive for East Campus. Ferst Drive will remain open to traffic. Drivers should use caution, as traffic lanes will shift. Georgia Tech Police officers and volunteers will direct traffic on-site.
  • Expect additional delays and congestion throughout West Campus, on Techwood Drive, and Centennial Olympic Park Drive for East Campus and North Avenue move-in, and along 10th Street near the Graduate Living Center.

Additionally, drivers should abide by all posted signage, including parking notices and “No Parking” signs, as some areas will be used for resident check-in, unloading, and short-term parking. These include:

  • W10 – Campus Recreation Center Deck.
    • Alternative Parking: W02 – Student Center Deck.
  • ER54 – North Avenue South Deck.
    • Park on Levels 2 and 3 only.
  • WR29 – On-street parking, near Armstrong/Hefner Residence Halls.
    • Alternative Parking: W31 – IPST lot.
  • ER51 – On-street parking, near Gray/Hayes Residence Halls.
    • Alternative Parking: E52 – Peters Parking Deck.
