The Georgia Tech community’s generosity was on display as the Institute was once again awarded the Governor’s Cup for the Georgia State Charitable Contributions Program (SCCP). The campaign team is looking for volunteers to help maintain momentum in 2025.
During the annual campaign, all University System of Georgia employees are able to donate to their favorite charities through payroll deduction.
When the 2025 campaign begins in September, the goal will be $200,000.
T. Robert Harris, a senior research engineer with the Georgia Tech Research Institute and campus chair of the 2024 Charitable Campaign, emphasized the role that ambassadors play in goal acquisition.
“Anyone and everyone can be an ambassador, and we can never have enough of them. These ambassadors help us to spread the word because they know how to engage their unit and tailor the message in a way to maximize donations,” he said.
Ambassadors serve as a liaison between the campaign team and the campus community, sharing dates and donation information with their colleagues. Those interested in becoming an ambassador ahead of the 2025 campaign can contact the team at charitable@gatech.edu.
The Institute’s total donations have climbed in each of the past four campaigns. In 2024, nearly $180,000, from 372 employees contributing between September and November, was raised overall for various charities. Harris praised those who have increased their donations each year, as well as first-time donors.
“The award says that our employees are generous, and that generosity is growing. The Institute supports communities with our work and our research, but this is an opportunity, as individuals, to come together for a wide variety of causes. This campaign shows that our employees feel connected to the community, and our impact is much greater when we work together,” Harris said.
The 2025 campaign runs from Sept.15 to Nov. 14.
Since 2022, Georgia SCCP has raised over $1.2 million for nonprofits. More than 700 different charities are available. These can be viewed at charitable.gatech.edu.
