The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia has approved Georgia Tech’s new Online Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence (OMS AI). It is designed to support working professionals in analyzing and applying artificial intelligence (AI) within their industries.

The interdisciplinary degree integrates Georgia Tech’s expertise in AI and emerging technologies with practical applications tailored to specific fields. Throughout the curriculum, students will explore the responsible use of AI, including ethics, privacy, safety, accountability, and governance.

It also builds on Georgia Tech's historic leadership in online graduate education. Georgia Tech’s suite of online master of science degree programs provides rigorous, accessible education to working professionals around the world.  programs provides rigorous, accessible education to working professionals around the world.

“Georgia Tech has always prepared people to lead through periods of technological change, and AI is the newest iteration,” said Raheem Beyah, provost and executive vice president for Academic Affairs. “This degree responds to what industry and working professionals need: the ability to pair deep human expertise with the skills to understand, apply, and lead with AI.”

Unlike graduate programs focused primarily on technical specialization, the OMS AI degree combines foundational AI knowledge with discipline-specific concentrations. Students will gain an understanding of how AI works, how organizations can deploy it responsibly, and how to apply AI capabilities to their profession.

“We aim to develop leaders across disciplines who understand the technology deeply enough to decide what to do with it, where to use it, and how to use it responsibly,” said Larry Jacobs, executive vice provost for education and learning. “Our curriculum combines Georgia Tech’s rich history of AI research and technical application with our culture of practical problem-solving to shape a degree that is applicable to professionals in a wide range of emerging fields."

The initial launch of the degree is planned for 2027 and will include six concentrations to help students shape their learning to their field of interest. The initial six concentrations include:

  • AI in Business
  • Decision-Support AI
  • Foundations of AI Theory
  • Health AI
  • Human-AI Interactions
  • Predictive AI

Every student enrolled in OMS AI will complete an AI practicum with a company or organization to ensure students can apply and translate what they learn to real-world situations.

The degree will continue to expand and evolve as AI technologies and workforce needs emerge. Future concentrations and curriculum enhancements will allow the program to address changing technology and industry demands across a broader range of disciplines. The curriculum will be agile and guided by faculty expertise.

“I’d like to thank Provost Beyah, his team, and our faculty for their leadership and support for this new degree program,” said President Ángel Cabrera. “Georgia Tech recognizes the transformative power of AI, and we are committed to developing a new generation of leaders who can harness the power of AI to improve the human condition.”

More details about the new degree program will be announced later this year.
